As most of you already know, I’m a huge animal lover and a big anti-fur, anti-leather, anti-basically anything that has to do with the torture and/or murder of animals. So I’m sure it comes as a big surprise to all of you that when I saw the waist belt pictured above, made from real leather, I decided to buy it, even though it goes against everything I stand for.
I guess you could only assume that somewhere along the way I let go of all my values and became yet another brain dead bimbo thinking only of herself and the fancy pancy clothes she can wear to impress other people. At least, that would’ve been my first thought, if I didn’t know myself better.
Luckily, I do know myself better. And hopefully, so do you. But if not, here’s a quick explanation as to why I bought this belt:
Let me start by saying that this belt was made in 2015 when Balmain teamed up with H&M to create affordable fashion aimed at those of us who simply can’t afford to pay the price of a small cottage for a pair of pants. You know, normal people. These items quickly sold out, and they haven’t been back in stock since. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. What I’m trying to say is: you won’t find these items in a regular clothing store anymore. The only way to get your hands on a piece of Balmain x H&M is to buy them second hand.
I always say that when it comes to fur and leather, you shouldn’t buy it. Not in stores, and not pre-owned, because wearing it might inspire others to buy them, and by doing so, you are supporting the fur/leather industry. This is very true for Chanel bags, Louis Vuitton bags, basically every ‘classic’ designer bag that never goes out of style and is still produced to this day. What makes this belt stand out, is that it’s not in production anymore, so even if I were to inspire others, it won’t do any harm, as the only way to get one is to buy it pre-owned.
It’s okay to buy a leather product if it’s no longer in production. At least that’s my opinion.
